I guess we're going here, too?

I've heard of the idea that David and Jonathan were lovers but I've never really taken it seriously, and I wouldn't dare use something so speculative in my own affirming argument. Still, it's interesting.

I am in distress because of you, my brother Jonathan; you were very dear to me; your love to me was more wonderful to me than the love of women (2 Sam 1:26)Johnathan's repeated display of (non-sexual) kindness to David at a time when Jonathan was in a position of power, selflessly risking his own life and certainly his own kingdom, surpassed anything David had ever known from a committed erotic relationship with a woman. No more and no less than this is the point of David's eulogy of his dear friend.

Really? If you say so. What I mean is, just stating things matter-of-factly is not a strong argument.

Anyhow, this is all fascinating, but for me it doesn't play into a conservative, critical discussion of an affirming biblical argument.

Note: This is a series of posts with my unvarnished thoughts as I read through The Bible and Homosexual Practice: Texts and Hermeneutics by Robert A. J. Gagnon, published in 2001 by Abingdon Press. It's described in a book I highly recommend, Two Views on Homosexuality, the Bible and the Church (edited by Preston Sprinkle, published in 2016 by Zondervan), as "the largest and most in-depth biblical study of the topic from a conservative position" . . . so I really ought to read it! I truly want to approach the book with an open mind, and I'll do my best to engage in good faith, but the reason I've chosen this type of stream-of-consciousness response is I'm lazy and I don't have time to write a proper review of the book. So I may lash out in anger, get sarcastic, or make claims without backing them up. This is just my unfiltered perspective - I'd love to hear your take in the comments!
